St. Enda’s 2-11, Newtownstewart 0-5
St Enda’s minors started their Grade 1B league campaign with a convincing win over Newtownstewart at Healy Park on Sunday afternoon.
Newton registered the first point of the game to lead for the only time after a minute before Thomas Clarke opened the Omagh account. Further points by Damien McGuigan, Odhran McGoldrick and Emmet McElhatton edged Omagh ahead before an emphatic shot to the net by Ronan Clarke put the home side into a commanding 6 point lead, 1-4 to 0-1. Further scores by Caolan Moss and McGoldrick saw Omagh go in at half time 1-6 to 0-2 in front.
Against a stiff breeze in the second half Clarke started the half like he did the first with a fine score before the visitors hit back with two quickfire points. Any suggestion of a comeback was quickly dismissed as McGoldrick found the net followed quickly by a point from Paddy Bradley. An excellent individual score from Dermot Doherty was followed swiftly by another from Caolan Gillespie before Doherty finished the scoring with a rasping shot that just cleared the crossbar for a final score of 2-11 to 0-5.
