The first “Marking Our Past” series of events at Omagh St Enda’s for 2025 will kick off with a new Afternoon Recollection programme at Caife 32 on February 7th from 2-30pm.
The 1965 Tyrone minor championship winning side from the club will come together almost sixty years from that historic success over Derrylaughan for what promises to be an afternoon of memories and craic. The invite is an open one to any of the players who were involved with the clubs minor success that year and of course there’s no charge.
Sadly some of the squad have went to their eternal rest in the intervening years but with the promise of coming together again skipper from 1965 Roddy Tierney who lifted “The Philadelphia Cup” as well as the West Tyrone title is hopeful those who can make the event will come along.
“It will be a very special occasion for so many of the players from that era who we don’t always catch up with to come together again” smiled the talented Tierney who had played senior football for the club two years previous. The squad featured players who went on to success at club and County level with several “youngsters” who had Under 16 hurling success sixty years ago too also named in the squad.
The St Enda’s boys title came eighteen years from their previous one and after beating a fancied Beragh Red Knights in the West Tyrone final 2-15 to 2-5 they eased to a 2-10 to 0-5 win against the Kevin Barry’s to seal the County title again. Goals from Mc Cann and Morris set them up with Mc Lernon, Mc Kenna, Mc Nally, Sally and Barbour among the points at Pomeroy in October 65.
The 1965 County Champions: Seamus Turbett, Michael Clarke, Sean O’Kane, Harry Barbour, Donal Mc Emhoill, Roddy Tierney, Terry Mc Gurk, Danny Mc Lernon, Paddy Mc Kenna, Liam Mc Na,,y, John Duddy, Kieran Sally, John Mc Cann, Damian Morris, Neil Barbour, Bobby Collins, Ignatous Sally, Paul Mc Gill, Paddyu Girr, Dessie Turbett, Paddy Mc Mahon.
