Brendan Mc Sorley RIP

We are all saddened to hear of the passing of Brendan Mc Sorley RIP.

One of the late Brendan’s proudest achievements was stepping into goals for Omagh St Enda’s when Thady Turbett stepped away in the early 1960’s, but that was just the start of many proud days for the talented billiard and snooker player from the well established Omagh family at the club. Through the late eighties too there were several occasions when he got the boots back on to bolster our reserve team.

While he watched his sons Damian, Liam, Niall and Adrian all enjoy success on the football and hurling field and represent many club teams with distinction through the 80s and 90s, Brendan was also so proud to watch his Grandchildren play their gaelic football and camogie at St Enda’s, Eoghan Rua Coleraine and Naomh Eoghan adding to the family tradition.

Brendan was always a regular at O’Neill’s Healy Park but illness meant he wasn’t able to come to as many games as he once did. With his Son Liam in recent years he was out supporting our senior ladies, always on the press bench at the back and always knowledgeable  with a quip or two. For those of us of a certain age though Brendan will be remembered for his video work.

“The big man with the video camera” was how he was described when he travelled through the County to many games at all grades played by the club. Brendan was always on hand to document club matches and events. But he wouldn’t just video them though and show them in the members bar, not Brendan. He would spend hours editing, adding music and special effects long before computers or fancy machines. His end of season review video’s were a highlight of players nights through the eighties and nineties.(who can forget the famous Eddie Duffy snippet ?)

A tall soft spoken gentleman he has left a legacy of video footage for our club documenting our history for many many years.
