St. Enda’s 5-5, Urney 3-7
Congratulations to the U16 girls who won the Tyrone Grade 4 championship today with a 5-5 to 3-7 victory over Urney in Aughabrack.
Playing with the wind in the first half Omagh ran into an early lead with Sophie Kelly and Brianna Gormley causing real problems for the Urney full back line Sophie ended the half with 3 goals and 2 points further points by Megan mc Daid and Claire Murray helped Omagh to a 3.04 to 2.02 half time lead.
The second half saw Urney put real pressure on the Omagh defence but some excellent tackling and blocks from every Omagh player kept a resurgent Urney at bay with Ella Miller and chiara Murrays timely interventions particularly memorable on one of the few 2nd half opportunities Ella Miller took a long distance free which found its way to the Urney net.
Urney kept piling on the pressure and came within one point of Omagh with ten minutes to go. The Omagh girls dug deep again and captain Sophie Kelly added a further goal and the excellent Bronagh mc Goldrick a point to ease the pressure.
Urney came back again but omaghs fighting spirit saw them run out 5.05 to 3.07 winners. The spirit of the entire panel of 18 players ensured Omagh recorded a memorable league and championship double.
Scores – Sophie Kelly 4-2, Ella miller 1-0, Bronagh McGoldrick, Megan McDaid and Clare Murray 0-1 each
The win means that St. Enda’s finished the season with five youth titles, two U16 boys titles, two U16 girls title and an U14 hurling title. Well done to everyone
