FOLLOWING a weekend when our Reserves landed the Division One league title, it is appropriate this week that we wind the clock back 26 years to 1988 for our Monday Memories series, when our Reserve team last won the Division One League.
With the 2014 league title coming hot on the heels of our seniors county championship victory, it is such a coincidence that the last time the Reserve League was won was also the last time the O’Neill Cup rested in Healy Park – 1988.
Back then the boys were crowned champions after their final league game against Coalisland, a game which they won on a 4-5 to 1-8 scoreline.
The team that day was as follows – Paul Logue (c), John McCance, Paul McCann, Brian McGinn, Colin McDaid, Tony McGinn (0-1), Chris O’Neill, Owen McMullan (0-1), Kenny Clarke, Damian O’Neill, Niall Laird, Don Gormley (1-1), Paul Woodhead (0-2), Barney McKenny (1-0), Linus Nugent (2-0). Subs – Martin Turbitt, Ciaran O’Neill, Jarlath McElholm, Ryan McGrath, Peter (P.C.) Quinn
