As the club prepares for its first county final appearance in nine years, this week’s Monday Memories looks back at the heroes of 1954 when St. Enda’s became the first club in Tyrone to win three county titles in a row.
Captained by the legendary Thady Turbett who holds six Tyrone senior championship medal, won in 1948, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1957 and 1963, the three-in-a-row team defeated Dungannon on the score of 1-8 to 0-5 with Kevin Murphy scoring 1-3.
The team line-out in 1954 was as follows –
Thady Turbett (c), Colm McRory, Paddy Corey, Eddie Knox, Harry Scully, Sean Donnelly, Michael McGread, Jackie Taggart, Dr. Pat O’Neill, Jackie Martin, Donal McSorley, Hugh Donnelly, Kevin Murphy (1-3), Donal Donnelly, Eddie Mulholland. Subs: Tony Campbell, Gabriel Brock.
Good luck to our men of 2014 next Sunday as they bid to win the club’s first Tyrone championship title since 1988.
