Long serving club stalwart Joe Mulryan was named as Club President for 2014 at Friday’s club presentation night in the Sperrin Restaurant.
Replacing outgoing President Brendan McAleer who was presented with his President’s Medal, Joe was one of many people honoured at the social evening. Also honoured on the night was Monsignor Joseph Donnelly who was named Honorary Club President. See citations below.

Awards were also presented to the 2013 Ceili Dance team which won the All-Ireland final while Seamus Hannigan who completed five years as Club Chairman was also recognised.

Club President 2013 – Brendan McAleer
Brendan McAleer has held the title of Club President for 2013 and during this period he has had the pleasure of witnessing the official re-opening of St. Patrick’s Park. Brendan has been a steady figure at St. Enda’s for over three decades.
He was a member of the Club’s 1982 Committee – our Golden Jubilee Year – and for many years he was instrumental in shaping the fortunes of our senior football committee which ultimately led to the winning of the O’Neill Cup in 1988.
Brendan then held the position of club chairman between 1997 and 1999 and helped to lay the foundations of great youth success the following decade.
Tonight we want to thank Brendan for his services to St. Enda’s and to present him with his President’s Medal for 2013.
Club President 2014 – Joe Mulryan
The Executive Committee’s choice of President for 2014 is a worthy one and this man really requires little introduction. From the moment he scored a goal to help St. Enda’s win its first juvenile title in 1954, Joe Mulryan has been an integral part of club life – and especially youth affairs – for many years.
Fifty years ago, he went on to score two goals in the 1963 senior final in Dungannon. He then became immersed in club administration, first being elected as vice-chairman in 1966 and then held the position of Secretary in 1992 and 1993. Today he is a key member of the weekly Bingo fund-raising team and is never too far away from club activities.
But it was as youth coach and team manager that Joe Mulryan is perhaps best known. For many years he coached and developed scores of young footballers, reaping many rewards throughout the 80s including league and championship titles and All-Ireland Feile titles.
Joe Mulryan’s contribution to St. Enda’s has been immense and therefore it gives us great pleasure to announce him as our Club President for 2014.
Honourary Club President – Monsignor Joseph Donnelly
In 2013 one of our great achievements was the official re-opening of St. Patrick’s Park as a second pitch for the club. This was all thanks to the generous fund raising efforts of Club Omagh members but it could not have been done without the generous support of the Parish committee and especially Monsignor Donnelly.
A number of you may not be aware of Monsignor Donnelly’s long-established links with St. Enda’s
In 1967, the then Fr Donnelly was elected to the position of Vice-Chairman of our Park Committee that was set up to help raise funds for the purchase and development of Healy Park. As a former minor footballer with Draperstown, he had a very strong interest in the GAA and he also held a position on our committee in 1968.
It is perhaps fitting then that all those years after he helped us with the development plans for Healy Park that he also helped us to reinstate St. Patrick’s Park – the spiritual home of St. Enda’s.
For that, we are eternally grateful, and as a token of our appreciation we are delighted to appoint Monsignor Donnelly as Honorary President of Omagh St. Enda’s.
Club Person of the Year – Paul Meldrum
Club Person of the Year, Paul Meldrum. Unfortunately Paul was unable to attend Friday’s presentation due to a pre-arranged commitment in Newcastle.
The Michael Healy Memorial Cup is awarded each year to a club member who demonstrates great passion and commitment to making our club a great place. The winner is voted for by club members at our annual general meeting and this year we had a unanimous winner.
While a lot of our focus is on what happens on the playing field, as you all know it takes a massive effort to run a club of our size and many people probably do not fully understand the amount of effort certain individuals put in to making sure all the activities run smoothly.
Clubs like St. Enda’s always need volunteers and this year’s winner proves that even though you might not have a long association with our club, you will always be welcomed and – if you want – you can also help to make a difference.
Our Club Person of the Year for 2013 only came to Omagh and St. Enda’s in 1998 but before long he fully immersed himself in the GAA and proved to be a great supporter.
In 2013 he stepped up to the plate and took on a major role on our committee and today he virtually eats, sleeps and breaths St. Enda’s, putting in many hours of effort in the voluntary role of Treasurer.
