Omagh St. Enda’s GAC is pleased to announce the appointment of Laurence Strain as manager of the club’s senior football team for 2014.

Supported by an extended back-room team, Laurence will be assisted by Barry McGinn as trainer and both men will oversee the development of senior and reserve football in the season ahead.

Both Laurence and Barry have previously developed a successful track record in team management, having spent three seasons together with Monaghan side Truagh in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Both have been credited with laying strong foundations for the Monaghan team who went on to win the Ulster Intermediate title in 2013. Laurence, who coached the St. Enda’s seniors in 2013, was also a former joint manager with his native Drumquin team which won the Division 2 league in 2006 and in recent years he has assisted with coaching St. Enda’s U10’s of which his son is a player.

Barry McGinn has been a long serving stalwart of St. Enda’s, having played football with distinction at youth and senior levels for club and county. An All-Ireland Vocational Schools medallist at juvenile and minor level, Barry also holds Ulster minor and U21 medals and was a key player on the Tyrone U21 team which won the All-Ireland in 1991. He was also a member of the 1988 St. Enda’s senior panel which last won the Tyrone senior championship and in recent years Barry has been coaching and managing the club’s U8 football team.

Speaking on behalf of his management team, Laurence said he and Barry were delighted to be given the responsibility of managing the club’s senior and reserve team in 2014.

“It is a great honour to be appointed manager of the St. Enda’s senior team and our management panel is looking forward to getting training underway for the new season. I would particularly like to pay tribute to previous managers Liam Grugan and Seanie Meyler who have done tremendous work over the past two years and have laid great foundations for us to develop in the months ahead,” he added.

St. Enda’s chairman John McElholm thanked everyone who expressed an interest in the senior positions and wished the new management team good luck for 2014. He encouraged all club members to show their full support for the players and management in the year ahead.
