The St. Enda’s senior football team which last won the Tyrone Senior Championship title in 1988 is set to be honoured at this Sunday’s county final in Healy Park. The team which was captained by Paddy Quinn, defeated Clonoe in Dungannon on the score of 2-6 to 2-4 with Paul McElhatton bagging 2-2 on the day.
1988 was a busy and successful year for St. Enda’s and we were desperately unlucky not to create another piece of history by winning the senior football and hurling championship in the one season. Unfortunately our hurlers were defeated by Carrickmore in the championship final just a couple of weeks before the football decider. Three of the hurlers also featured on the football team.
The senior footballers went on to win the league title in 1988 and also won the prestigous Letterkenny Sevens, while the Reserves also won the league. We also won three All-Ireland titles in Scór na nÓg Ceili and Set Dancing as well as Scór Sinsear Ceili dancing.
It is planned to have a reunion night for the teams of 1988 plus the 1963 team in the clubrooms within the next few weeks. See Gallery for more photos from 1988 football final.
