Chairman’s Address to Members & Parents

By Kristina Tue 7th May

A Chairde,

We are now nearly half way through the 2019 GAA season and I want to pay tribute to our coaches, players and small number of hardworking volunteers who give tirelessly of their time to make this club – your club – a better place for you and your children.

As we approach another big championship game on Sunday in Healy Park, I plea to all our members, and in particular parents of our youth members, to please consider getting involved in volunteering in your club. I appreciate some of you may be shy to volunteer, some maybe don’t see this as your club or indeed some of you may have never been directly asked to help. I assure you however, that any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

We as a club are ultra-dependent on a small group of volunteers on Matchday and throughout the year and too often it’s always the same faces that appear, week in and week out. These helpers and volunteers are more than likely your children’s friends’ parents – I urge you to please volunteer with them and help share the workload.

On matchdays we constantly need help on stewarding, in the kitchen and shops, selling half time draw tickets and programmes sellers, general tidying up in advance of, and litter picking after the game.

Throughout the year we also need help in a range of areas to include bar work, general cleaning, Bingo and lotto, tea and sandwich makers, bus driving duties, administration duties, taking match pictures or writing short match reports grass cutting, painting and general outdoor maintenance.

Whilst our membership and player numbers deem us as a ‘large’ club in Tyrone and Ulster GAA terms, regrettably and unfortunately at times it feels like we are a lot smaller, as I assure you the above duties are carried out diligently and constantly by a small number of volunteers, that we are deeply indebted to, and I’m sure you are as well.

A few hours here or there, an hour a month, an hour a week or even just helping on matchdays, is all that we are asking. No assistance no matter how little will be turned away. If your child is benefitting from our club and its excellent facilities and coaches, I particularly urge you to volunteer. If you are unable to volunteer due to personal work or business commitments, I would ask you to consider sponsoring the club, or joining Club Omagh – the clubs fundraising committee. A donation of just £20 per month will help continue the great work in development in our club that has spanned generations.

Anyone willing to volunteer, assist in any way, please contact me on 07775700598 or email chairperson.omaghstendas.tyrone@gaa.ie indicating anything you believe you could offer or assist with. Please don’t wait for, or watch for others volunteering. I look forward to hearing from you. Remember your help can make all the difference for your child and for your club.

Go raibh mile maith agaibh.

Is mise le meas,

Conchúr Mac Salaigh
